Program Coordinator | Toronto, Canada | EDT | Part-time

Meena leads the Beacons of Hope initiative, to identify, promote, and better understand the expertise and models that are where things need to move, where the future of food is, to showcase insights from communities on the frontlines, that can inspire and inform others throughout global food systems. In her 10 years on the secretariat, Meena has covered operations, organised convenings, and coordinated communications.

Prior to the GA, she worked at the International Freedom of Expression Exchange (a network of 115 press freedom and human rights organizations), and was the editor of dissenting dialogues magazine – with writers in Toronto, New York, London, Oslo, Colombo, and Jaffna, covering issues in Sri Lanka.

Born in Sri Lanka, she immigrated to Canada as a child in the early 1970s, and has travelled back frequently to see family and friends, to better understand how all communities experienced the 26-year armed conflict. Meena has degrees in religion and culture, and journalism. And her favourite Sri Lankan desserts are payasam and love cake. 🙂
