The Future of Food: Now

Dear colleagues,

It was great to see many of you in France in May at the Global Alliance’s 2nd International Dialogue: The Future of Food in a Climate Changing World (#GAID2017). Our starting point was the premise that climate change has had enormous impacts on global food systems and will continue to do so; that our food systems have a significant impact on the earth’s climate; and, importantly, that food systems hold great potential in helping us address the great climate challenge we face as a global community. The participation of over 250 thought-leaders at the #GAID2017 strongly reinforced these points.

The two days were abundant with suggestions on how we navigate potential obstacles and embrace opportunities to craft visions of the food systems we need today and tomorrow, and to chart potential pathways to get there. We will share these with you in a summary report in the fall.

We also have this short video which emphasizes the need to bring diverse voices together. There was a palpable sense at the Dialogue that we are all increasingly recognizing the need for “the alchemy of different interests working together to achieve material and social change in the global South and North,” as one of our members rightly noted.
