Toward fossil fuel–free food: Why collaboration between food and energy systems players is key
02 November 2023
To achieve net-zero by 2050 and limit global warming to 1.5°C (2.7°F), we must urgently wean our food systems off fossil fuels.
Toward Fossil Fuel–Free Food: Why collaboration between food and energy systems players is key provides a better understanding of the interconnectedness between food and energy systems, with a specific emphasis on the role of fossil fuels. This Discussion Paper unveils the trade-offs, synergies, gaps, and opportunities that arise within this nexus, and recommends near-term opportunities for enhanced collaboration among food and energy systems policymakers, funders, and advocates.
Designed as part of a suite of materials, this Discussion Paper accompanies the recently published briefing paper, Power Shift: Why we need to wean industrial food systems off fossil fuels. These materials serve as a catalyst for action, fostering conversations and shared objectives within the food–energy nexus. The goal is to inspire meaningful discussions and drive positive change in food systems’ reliance on fossil fuels.
