The transformation of food systems is critical to solving major global challenges. Identifying solutions with lasting and meaningful progress requires a new way to assess the value of food systems — including accounting for externalized costs and rewarding benefits delivered to people and nature.

Ahead of the UN Food Systems Summit +2 Stocktaking Moment, we invite you to the launch of Natural Farming Through a Wide-Angle Lens: True Cost Accounting Study of Community Managed Natural Farming in Andhra Pradesh, India, a groundbreaking study that demonstrates the potential for True Cost Accounting (TCA) to reveal previously hidden value and guide integrated policy actions to transform food systems.

From a detailed examination of the Andhra Pradesh case study, webinar participants will learn how TCA can transform food systems and unlock progress toward SDGs, climate targets, and other national and global goals.

Speakers include: Lauren Baker (Deputy Director, Global Alliance for the Future of Food), João Campari (Global Leader, Food Practice, WWF), Harpinder Sandhu (Professor of Ecological Economics, Federation University Australia), Pavan Sukhdev (Founder and CEO, GIST Impact), Vijay Kumar Thallam (Executive Vice Chairman, Rythu Sadhikara Samstha), and Annelies Withofs (Programme Manager, The IKEA Foundation).

ABOUT THE REPORT
Led by GIST Impact with support from the Global Alliance for the Future of Food, the report assesses the true costs and benefits of the Andhra Pradesh Community-Managed Natural Farming (APCNF) project, an effort to transition 630,000 Andhra Pradesh farmers to agroecological practices. This first-of-its-kind study compares the economic, social, and health impacts of APCNF with three counterfactual farming systems prevalent in this region of India.

This report also further validates UN Environment Program’s TEEBAgriFood Framework as an approach to generate novel insights regarding the links between agricultural practices and human well-being and to create a roadmap for transformative policies and practices.
