GLOBAL ALLIANCE WELCOMES TWO NEW MEMBERS: DAVID ROCKEFELLER FUND AND THE 11TH HOUR PROJECT

The Global Alliance for the Future of Food is pleased to announce that both the David Rockefeller Fund and the 11th Hour Project, a program of the Schmidt Family Foundation, have joined our alliance of philanthropic foundations working together and with others to transform global food systems now and for future generations. This brings the alliance up to 25 international foundations committed to strategic, collaborative action for food systems transformation.

The David Rockefeller Fund’s (DRF) grant-making – at the intersection of climate change solutions and food systems – emerges from the Richard Rockefeller Climate Change Initiatives, with a focus on urgent efforts to support bold action to limit the global impacts of climate change and highlight the mitigation effects of sustainable agroecology practices, carbon sequestration through soils, and opportunities to take natural climate solutions rapidly to scale.

“The late Richard Rockefeller and the DR Fund trustees have long been focused on climate change,” says Lukas Haynes, DRF Executive Director. “This partnership with the Global Alliance is a welcome synergy between DRF efforts to support climate solutions at a national scale in the U.S. and the need for large-scale, natural climate solutions globally.

“We see membership in the Global Alliance as an efficient way to learn, to leverage collaboration with others, and to identify and promote the policy and finance options for significantly scaling best practices. Responding to climate change is an enormous opportunity to eliminate wasteful and unhealthy practices in the global food system, mitigate hunger, and ensure more sustainable agroecology practices for decades to come. We are excited to do our small part.”

The 11th Hour Project works at the nexus of energy, food & agriculture, and human rights, working to grow beyond a linear economy based on extraction and waste towards a regenerative economy, by advancing frameworks that value healthy ecosystems, active civic engagement, and social fairness. One key focus area is transformative agriculture systems, with programs supporting work in the U.S. and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Sarah Bell, Program Director at the 11th Hour Project, adds, “As a member of the Global Alliance, we are excited to partner with other funders to advance a new vision for the future of food and agriculture – one in which our economy operates within the limits of our ecology and in service to community.”

The Global Alliance is thrilled to welcome both these philanthropic leaders-in-their-field to our mission of innovating and creating a new approach to funder collaboration at a global scale, where we meet in shared responsibility to better understand the impacts of food systems, address the most harmful practices, and find new positive pathways forward, together.
