Beacons of Hope: Food Systems Transformation Report & Toolkit
The Beacons of Hope initiative showcases the groundswell of people transforming our food systems in dynamic and creative ways. They are inspiring examples and evidence that transformation is possible. Alongside the report, the Food Systems Transformation Toolkit provides a guide for discussion and collective action. It also provides recommendations on how to accelerate meaningful food systems transformations at this critical time.
Accelerating Transformations to Sustainable Food Systems
The first phase of this initiative was launched to coincide with the publication of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Special Report on Land in August 2019, which spelt out the need for urgent action. The Global Alliance for the Future of Food collaborated with Biovision Foundation for Ecological Development to create the Beacons of Hope, setting out to understand the power and potential of food systems transformations to address critical issues globally, across different contexts, and in different places.
Today, the Global Alliance has widened the frame of analysis to consider initiatives whose creativity and adaptability embody resilience in the face of global challenges like COVID-19. The same methodology and the seven guiding principles of the Global Alliance — renewability, healthfulness, equity, diversity, resilience, inclusion, and interconnectedness — are being used to identify new Beacons of Hope.
