This side-event during the 49th Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) will shine a light on emerging coalitions, evidence, and policy actions to advance agroecology and agricultural biodiversity, as interconnected pathways to transform food systems towards increased food security, nutrition, and sustainability. In a landmark year with the adoption of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the CFS’ Policy Recommendations on Agroecological and other Innovative Approaches, speakers will discuss strategies to advance these frameworks through collaborative action, enabling policies, and increased resources for food systems transformation.

The session is delivered in partnership with AgroEcology Fund, Alliance Bioversity-CIAT, Biovision Foundation, Global Alliance for the Future of Food, IPES-Food, Laurier Centre for Sustainable Food Systems, UNESCO Chair on Food, Biodiversity, and Sustainability Studies, Switzerland, and WWF International.

Objectives

  • Highlight emerging coalitions, evidence, and policy actions that advance agroecology and agricultural biodiversity, and the benefits of advancing both agendas simultaneously
  • Build connections to promote diverse evidence and knowledge sharing networks addressing agroecology and biodiversity
  • Identify common priorities and opportunities for action in the programs of work of the CFS, UNCBD, and UNCCD related to agroecology and biodiversity.
